Im Jahre 1987 wurde in Malir nahe der Zufahrtsstrasse zum Flughafen Karachi ein SOS Kinderdorf gebaut. Dazu gehören ein Jugendheim, eine „Hermann Gmeiner“ Schule sowie ein SOS Medical Centre.

The entire SOS Children’s Village Karachi has recently been renovated along with the Swissair house; the cost of which amounted to thirteen lakhs and sixty-three thousand Pakistani rupees,which is roughly equivalent to 10,666 euros. Hence, we do not forsee any major potential renovation in 2013.

The Swissair family consists of the three Sattar siblings; Ibrahim, Hamza and Muskan, left in the care of SOS in April 2011 after their mother was sentenced life imprisonment for murduring their father.
The Salim brother and sister; Fatima and Zeeshan, were admitted by their father after they lost their mother in the earthquake of 2005, Further following children live in the house: The Fatima sisters; Zainab and Sehar, along with Sumera Rafiq, Mansoor Ahmed and Iqra Usman.
Hamza Sattar,
age twelve, and his sister Muskan Sattar, age fourteen, have both moved on to remedial grade one this year and are gradually improving in their studies whereas their youngest brother, Ibrahim Sattar (age ten) was awarded for his all-rounder performance in the school year 2012.
The thirteen years old, Fatima Salim
has successfully moved on to sixth grade. She plans to sew and design her own dress by herself on the coming Eid festival while her little brother, the lively eleven years old Zeeshan Salim, has been promoted to second grade, which can be attributed to their house mother, Shugufta, who very diligently helped and encouraged him.
Zainab (age thirteen), Sehar (age seven), Sumera (age fourteen) and Iqra (age eight) were all shy, but they have now developed confidence through the support and love of their newly formed sisterhood. They look after the younger ones; one of them the ten years old Mansoor, who has been promoted to second grade.
Together, these children have helped each other to overcome personal grief and trauma in order to move on to live like a normal, happy family. The year 2012 has been very busy for them in terms of events and activities both at the Village and school. Summer school, summer camp, sports week, painting competition, wedding at the Village and the addition of five new born babies (grand children) to the SOS family were the hallmarks for this year.
Aims:
For the year 2013, the Swissair family aims to improve upon their weak academic level computer skills and to take on new sporting challenges. Hamza and Ibrahim wish to try out swimming in their summer vacations. Zeeshan and Mansoor, the cricket fans, have already come up with a game plan to improve their bowling skills; Fatima and Sumera are looking up class schedules of the nearby English Language Centre in order to take up classes there to horn their English language skills whereas Zainab, Sehar, Mansoor and Iqra are all planning to sign up on the basic-level computer class taught at summer school. The children’s house mother has encouraged them to pursue their diverse interests but she also wants them to simultaneously keep improving their grades and intends to keep discussing with them the moral values of life.
